About Claire:

I am a graduate of the University of florida, class of 2009, with a BS in Botany. I worked as a Biologist at UF for four years, where I participated in research and managed a lab with a focus in space biology and molecular biology. I use the concepts I learned as an undergraduate every day to solve new and often difficult problems, so I’d like to be able to impart real practical problem solving skills to any student.

I love learning and I look forward to being able to pass on my passion for math and science. I am also good with English and Literature – I am a voracious reader and am well read in both the classics and current best sellers.

I have a knack for standardized tests and would love to tutor for the PSAT and SAT. My scores on those tests qualified me for Duke University’s Talent Identification Program, where I spent the maximum four years in summer study.

I’ve looked for teaching and community outreach opportunities whenever I could take them. I’ve been a docent at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, been a camp counselor, and held public science talks.

My approach in tutoring would be to emphasize critical thinking, building good study habits, and encouraging curiosity. I can help students not only to pass the tests and ace homework but to foster a lifelong love of learning and really go beyond what is asked of you by the classroom. Since I’m a fairly recent college graduate much of the basic science and math is fresh in my mind.
